![]() GEORGE WHITE'S SCANDALS (Musical) [1 hour 20 minutes] Opening with a credit line that reads "Entire production conceived, created and directed by George White," a film evolves where the only plot line is a thin backstage romance between Jimmy Martin and Kitty Donnelly in and around a dozen or more sketches, revues, black-outs and singing and dancing turns. Made before the birth of the production code, reviewers of the day found much to object about in the implications of Alice Faye's "Nasty Man" song with the Meglin Kiddies, and the dog action in the "Your Dog Loves My Dog" number by Vallee, Faye, Jimmy Durante and Dixie Dunbar. The geometric dance arrangements used in the Vallee, Durante and Cliff Edwards "Every Day Is Father's Day" was not cause for Busby Berkeley to lose any sleep. |

![]() MELODY IN SPRING (Comedy | Music | Romance) [1 hour 15 minutes] It's love at first sight for singer John Craddock and Jane Blodgett who meet while John is seeking a radio job with the "Blodgett Dog Biscuit Hour," and John learns that the sponsor is Jane's father, Warren Blodgett, an avid souvenir and antiques collector. John gets himself in bad with Blodgett when he accidentally ruins a deal in which Blodgett was attempting to acquire a bedpost for his collection. To break up the romance, Blodgett and his wife take Jane to Switzerland, where Blodgett has his heart set on obtaining a jealously-guarded cowbell. John has followed the family. Ere long, following a mountain climbing expedition that gives the mountain people a chance to sing with John, the latter and Blodgett and, ultimately, Jane find themselves in a Swiss jail. |

![]() EVERGREEN (Comedy | Musical | Romance) [1 hour 34 minutes] Harriet Green, a beloved and radiant music hall star of the Edwardian era, has a guilty secret: She has a baby daughter, born out of wedlock. Harriet leaves her public and flees to South Africa to raise her daughter quietly. The years pass, and now her daughter, Harriet Hawkes, returns to London as a young show-biz hopeful. Tommy, a wily publicity man, knowing that young Harriet is a dead ringer for her famous mother, convinces a theater producer to star her in a new revue as none other than the original Harriet Green, miraculously untouched by old age. The ruse works too well: Now the public believes Harriet is a well-preserved 60-year-old and Tommy is her son. The deception is more than merely inconvenient, because now Harriet and Tommy have secretly fallen in love. |

![]() APRIL BLOSSOM BLOSSOM TIME (original title) (Musical | Romance) [1 hour 22 minutes] The film spotlights famed composer Franz Schubert, who loves a woman from afar. He stands by in quiet desperation as his beloved is married to a dashing military officer, then pours his sorrow (and his love) into his work. To avoid royalty payments, most of the Sigmund Romberg score is jettisoned, replaced by authentic Schubert themes. ===== When composer Franz Schubert finds himself the victim of an unrequited love affair, he decides to make the woman of his dreams happy by trying to arrange her marriage to the man she wants, who is in the bad books of the ruling authorities of 1820's Vienna. |

John is not very good at his job, as he often has trouble trying to pair up the shoes, much to his Manager's annoyance and frustration. Beryl also has a crush on George, who is too naive to notice, until Chambermaid Tonie Forde puts George into the picture. During an altercation with the chief, George lets on that he can sing. Playing his banjo ukulele he entertains his fellow workers. Later, Beryl tells George that she can dance. George helps Beryl develop her dancing skills by accompanying her on his banjo ukulele. The two later show their talents in front of the hotel guests. The manager is so impressed that he tells them that he will be introducing them to his friends. Love blossoms between George and Beryl, with the movie ending with the couple kissing. |

![]() BELLE OF THE NINETIES (Comedy | Drama | Musical) [1 hour 13 minutes] Ruby Carter, the American Beauty queen of the night club-sporting world, shifts her operations from St. Louis to New Orleans (which kind of belies the Western genre designation), mostly to get away from prizefighter Tiger Kid. Installed as the prize attraction of "The Sensation Club", ran by Ace Lamont, she quickly becomes the toast of the town and also marked as personal property by Ace, arousing the fury of Ace's former flame, Molly Brant. The not-overly-bright Tiger comes to town and is set for a title match with the champ by Ace, while the latter also has him steal some of Ruby's jewels. Ruby, no dumb-belle, figuring Ace has the fix in on the fight, uses some of her other jewels to lay a trap for Ace. Tiger confesses, after the fight, to Ruby his role in the jewel robbery while she hints that Ace was the one who slipped him the knock-out drops. Tiger goes after Ace, who, for his own reasons, has Molly locked in a closet. |

She marries Archie, they have a child, Archie dies during WWI, Belle loses her voice and for many years winters in warm climates whilst her daughter, Kitty (Aileen Marson), grows up in the care of Archie's aunt (Marie Lohr). Sam goes out to Nice and convinces Belle to return to sing at the inn, which has become a fancy road house. Sam has partnered with Dick and Chester, who Belle always suspected of being crooks. ![]() THE GRASSHOPPER AND THE ANTS (animated short) (Family | Comedy | Animation) [8 minutes] As in the classic fable, the grasshopper plays his fiddle and lives for the moment, while the industrious ants squirrel away massive amounts of food for the winter. With his song, he's able to convince at least one small ant until the queen arrives and scares him back to work. The queen warns the grasshopper of the trouble he'll be in the coming winter. Winter comes, and the grasshopper, near starvation, stumbles across the ants, who are having a full-on feast in their snug little tree. They took him in and warmed him up. The queen tells him only those who work can eat so he must play for them. |

![]() BACHELOR OF ARTS (Drama) [1 hour 14 minutes] Alexander "Alec" Hamilton, Jr., a headstrong, but likable freshman at the state college, falls in love at first sight with co-ed Mimi Smith when he sees her standing over him after he gets involved in a brawl at an antiwar speech. After nearly getting into a couple of more fights, Alec, whose father, the owner of Hamilton Iron Works, is sending him through college, proposes to Mimi, who works her way through as a dining hall cashier, but she only agrees to date. After Alec breaks a date with Mimi when his fraternity initiation turns into an all-night drinking party, he meets a radical reading Karl Marx's Das Capital and, convinced that Mimi has not come up against the "realities of life," takes her to a rally in the park. The rally soon turns into a brawl when the people congregated resent Alec and Mimi's intrusion. Mimi and Alec become engaged, but when Alec, on a whim, buys a car instead of her engagement ring, she calls him a spoiled child and says that they should not see each other again. After she sees him driving with Gladys Cottle, who tries to make her jealous, Mimi returns Alec's fraternity pin. As Alec gets acquainted with one of his instructors, Professor Barth, the professor's wife Mary, who is ill, and Robert Neal, an excellent student who is confined to a wheelchair, he begins to mature; however, when he thinks that Mimi and Professor Donald Woolsey, who has fallen in love with her, are making fun of his singing at Glee Club practice, Alec rebukes Mimi, goes drinking with Gladys and neglects his studies. After the dean reprimands Alec and he is arrested for reckless driving, Mimi writes his father and convinces him not to give Alec money so that he will have to work. Alec gets a job in the University Cafe, and when he learns from Neal that Mrs. Barth will die if she does not get to a better climate soon, he retrieves his fraternity pin from Gladys, who gives it up for a kiss when she sees Mimi watching, hocks it with his watch and sells his blood to get $200, which he leaves anonymously for Mary and Professor Barth so that they can go to the desert. After Mimi reprimands Alec for kissing Gladys, Woolsey, who saw Alec leave the money, tells Mimi of the deed and explains that Alec needed contact with something real: the Barths. Mimi stops Alec from leaving school, and they are reconciled. |
